Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Speakarium (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and language-practice services. It is written to meet transparency expectations for Google AdSense and applicable privacy laws, including the GDPR for users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom.
1. Who we are
Speakarium (“we”, “us”) operates this website and language-practice service. Privacy and data requests: use our Contact form (messages are reviewed by the site operators). We help people practice real-world conversations with AI-assisted Listen, Speak, Pronounce, and vocabulary tools.
2. Information we collect
- Account & practice data: email (when you sign in with a magic link), language preferences, scenarios, progress, and words you save.
- Device & usage data: browser type, approximate region, pages viewed, and diagnostic logs needed to run and secure the service.
- Messages you send: name, email, and content submitted through Contact Us.
- Payment data: handled by our payment processors (e.g. PayPal / ePayco). We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
We use:
- Essential cookies / local storage — required to keep you signed in on this device, remember UI language and theme, and store your cookie choices. These do not require advertising consent.
- Advertising cookies — only if you choose Accept all in our cookie banner. These may be set by us or by third parties such as Google.
4. Google AdSense and third-party advertising
We may display ads to free (non-Premium) users using Google AdSense or similar partners when advertising is enabled for the site.
Third parties, including Google, may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect or receive information from this website and elsewhere on the internet, and use that information to provide measurement services and to serve ads, including personalized (interest-based) advertisements based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
Google and other vendors may place and read cookies on your browser or use advertising identifiers to serve ads based on your previous visits. You can learn more about how Google uses data when you use our partners’ sites or apps here: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google via Google Ads Settings and, where available, industry tools such as the NAI opt-out. Our cookie banner also lets you refuse advertising cookies (Essential only). Without advertising consent we will not load Google AdSense tags. We also signal your choice to Google via Consent Mode v2 (ad storage and personalization denied until you Accept all).
5. Legal bases (EEA / UK)
Where GDPR / UK GDPR applies, we process data on these bases:
- Contract — to provide practice features you request.
- Legitimate interests — to secure, improve, and understand the product in a privacy-respecting way.
- Consent — for non-essential cookies and personalized advertising. You may change or withdraw choices anytime via Cookie settings in the site footer, or by contacting us.
- Legal obligation — when the law requires retention or disclosure.
6. How we use information
- Operate Listen / Speak / Pronounce and save your progress.
- Authenticate accounts and prevent abuse.
- Respond to Contact Us messages.
- Process Premium subscriptions.
- Show ads to free users when you consented to advertising cookies and ads are enabled.
7. Sharing
We share data with processors who help us run the service (hosting, email delivery, payment providers, AI model providers, and advertising partners such as Google when ads are shown). We do not sell your personal information. Processors are bound by contracts and only receive what they need to perform their role.
8. Retention
We keep account and practice data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for security and legal purposes. Contact messages are retained until reviewed and archived. You may request deletion via Contact Us (subject to legal exceptions).
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export your data, and to object to certain processing or withdraw consent. Contact us to exercise these rights. EEA / UK users may also lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority.
10. Children
Speakarium is not directed at children under 13 (or the digital-consent age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International transfers
Our infrastructure and vendors may process data in countries outside your own (including the United States). Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
12. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy where permitted by law.
